One of the great gifts of the Neighborhood series is that it introduces children to different art forms and different cultures. Here Mister Rogers gives children a close look at paintings by Picasso – and then visits the Spanish Singing Bakers who perform with rhythm instruments.
Description:
It’s the art that’s inside us that counts, and today’s program encourages children to express their feelings and their individuality through art. Mister Rogers shows slides of well-known art by Picasso, who had different ways of painting people. In Make-Believe, King Friday has insisted that everyone makes a portrait of him, and the neighbors are working on their own versions. Lady Elaine decides to send over a Picasso instead! Mister Rogers goes to Brockett’s Bakery to hear the Spanish Singing Bakers and then makes a rhythm rattle like one they used.
Parenting tip: Help your child make a rhythm instrument like a rattle similar Mister Rogers makes, with dried beans in a tube that’s taped on both ends.
