Mister Rogers Iphone app wins GOLD!

The Mister Rogers Make a Journal app for iphone and itouch has won a Parents' Choice Gold Award! The app helps children build the skills they need for emotional intelligence - which is known as EQ. And it’s emotional intelligence - how we handle our feelings and how well we get along with others - that many believe to be the key human skill for success in school and in life.

The Mister Rogers Make a Journal app was created with EQ in mind. It gives children a chance to create a digital journal to help them reflect on and talk about their feelings in everyday situations. Kids choose from among five journal topics: Books, Mad Feelings, Playtime, Pretending and School. They can then assemble pictures of story-building blocks that relate to the topic in order to tell their own journal stories. Watch a demo.

This unique app is educational in a way that most apps are not – it’s a social- emotional app helping children develop emotional intelligence.

The completed journals can also give children a way to express and share their feelings with the adults who care about them. This app can be an especially useful tool for children who might be reluctant to talk about their feelings.

Mister Rogers Make a Journal from PBS KIDS was developed by Darren Murtha Design in partnership with PBS. The original concept and artwork were created by FableVision Inc. as part of PBS PLAY! It is available from itunes.
