On the Road with FCI Workshops!
From Boise to Charlotte to Baltimore, it’s been a busy travel month for FCI’s Director of Early Childhood Initiatives, Hedda Sharapan. In Boise, Idaho Hedda was the keynote speaker at Idaho’s Special Olympics Breakfast of Champions. The audience, including Special Olympics athletes and community leaders, responded with great enthusiasm and affection to the treasured video clips that brought to life Fred Rogers’ respect for all his “neighbors” no matter what they can or cannot do and his message that we are much more alike than we are different. Hedda was also delighted to be able to meet with Idaho Public Television’s Ron Pisaneschi who came by to join in the event.
Next stop for Hedda was Charlotte, NC for the NAEYC Professional Development Institute. There Hedda was joined by other FCI staff to present a seminar on the role of Fred Rogers as “the playful adult” to this select group of early childhood leaders.
Hedda rounded out the month in Baltimore, to offer four FCI workshops accepted for the National Association for Family Child Care conference. On the evaluation forms, participants in our newest professional development workshop “Helping Children Learn Discipline" wrote comments ranging from “awesome” and “super” to “inspiring.” After the session, one family child care provider told Hedda “This is the most important seminar I’ve ever been to – in my life!”
We’re proud to be able to continue Fred’s legacy in helping adults who help children.
