Start Planning for "Neighbor" Day
March 20, our third annual “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?" Day celebrating Fred’s birthday, is coming up next month. Wear a sweater. Do something neighborly. Plan a sweater drive.
This year we’re partnering in our neighborhood with the United Way of Allegheny County. We’ll be expanding our focus to promote volunteerism - a natural extension of Fred Rogers’ legacy of neighborliness. Through this partnership, people will be encouraged to make a commitment to volunteer on a regular basis, not just for this one time "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" Day event. Working with the United Way, we’ll have the chance to match volunteers with organizations that need volunteers– and help to nurture their relationships.
We’re working again with libraries, museums, child care centers and preschools that will be creating events of their own to celebrate Fred and their neighbors.
We’re hoping that, just as in years past, neighbors across the country will find ways to celebrate Fred Rogers. If there is anything we can do to support your efforts, please contact Margy Whitmer.
And of course, we’ll be wearing our sweaters and hoping you will be.
