Three "Neighbors" Perform at Presidential Inauguration
Violinist Itzhak Perlman, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and clarinetist Anthony McGill performd together at Barack Obama's Inauguration on January 20. What connects these three talented musicians – besides playing together with pianist Gabriela Montera for the throngs gathered in Washington D.C. and the millions watching on TV? They all visited on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood – even clarinetist Anthony McGill. Now principal clarinetist for the Metropolitan Opera Company, he and his brother Demarre, at the time both students at Curtis Institute, joined pianist Alan Morrison in a trio rehearsal for Mister Rogers and television neighbors, dressed for a formal concert, and talked about the value of music in their lives.

As a musician himself, it was always important to Fred Rogers to bring world-class music and art to young children. How lucky we were that these people were willing to share their artistry with our Neighborhood.
Tune in to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood next month when you’ll be able to see Itzhak Perlman’s catchy rendition of “Yankee Doodle” and listen to YoYo Ma and his young son Nicholas play a “Skater’s Waltz” duet. (check local listings).
