The centerpiece of ‘Tribute to Children’ is a bronze statue of Fred Rogers created by internationally acclaimed sculptor Robert Berks, who also designed the city of Pittsburgh’s famed statue of former Pittsburgh Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri.

The sculpture:

  • weighs approximately four (4) tons and stands approximately 10 feet 10 inches tall, and 7 feet 3 inches wide from the hip on one side of the sculpture to the extended foot on which the subject is tying his shoe.

  • took more than two full years to construct.

  • will be recessed into the steps at the site.

  • was finished in upstate New York and was shipped to Pittsburgh for the site’s dedication on November 5, 2009.
