Stewards of Berks’ Art Convey Positive Public Response to His Work:
Einstein Memorial, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC
"The Einstein memorial is one of this city's most distinguished landmarks. It reminds us of
the impact that one scientist can have on our lives as well as the critical importance of
science to our nation. For the children who climb it and pose for pictures, it's a wonderful
hands and 'feet-on' experience which we hope will keep them excited about science.
Everyone wants to be photographed near it."

Carolus Linnæus sculpture at the Chicago Botanic Garden
"The statue is much larger than life, analogous to the way that Carolus Linnaeus played with science. He was larger than life. This sculpture and Berks approach to it is larger than life, too. The sculpture is very craggy and textural and in many ways blends with the textures of the surrounding evergreens. So people are very curious about the piece because of the scale and the method that Berks used for sculpting the piece. He literally used huge chunks of clay- the composite looks like tree bark- which is so apropos for this Garden. People are intrigued and fascinated."Roger Vandiver, Curator,
Chicago Botanic Garden Art Collection
