Tribute to Children is now open to the public.

PLEASE NOTE: The monument will be closed, Monday morning through Friday afternoon, for maintenance from September 10 to mid-October.  Please plan to visit on Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday during that time.

Please download Java(tm). On August 20, Joanne Rogers visited the Tribute to Children site.

Tim Inglis, President of the Colcom Foundation, accompanied her to the site where they met George Pastor from Astorino and Kurt Keller from FRANCO. At right are photos from the day.

Tribute to Children riverfront park is nearing completion and will soon be open to visitors. The project is managed by Astorino, the architectural firm responsible for design and construction. It will feature a walk around platform -- measuring approximately 96 feet by 59 feet -- and will encompass the old Manchester Bridge pier which will be reconstructed into a dramatic portal. The floor design will be patterned after the studio floor in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood known as the famed 'Neighborhood of Make-Believe.'

Local construction trades are completing what Pittsburgh leaders hope will be a regional and national visitor's destination. Trade unions working on the project include: Operating Engineers Local 66, Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 9, Laborers Local 373, Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters Locals 142 and 230, Cement Masons Local 526, Iron Workers Local 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 5, Plumbers Local 27.

"We are thankful to the local tradesmen, authorities and to our team of architects for their efforts in creating a very special place that will be completed this summer," said Bill Isler, President of Family Communications, Inc. "The generosity of Colcom Foundation is making this gift to the region a reality," added Isler.
