About Family Communications

Beginnings
We're a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 by Fred Rogers as the production company for MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD.

What We Do' Legacy
We develop projects in all media, provide education and training for people who work with young children and consult on issues that affect families.

Who We Are
Our multidisciplinary staff collaborates with a variety of partners and funders as well as board members and advisors, to shape the work at hand.
"It’s amazing how many people reach out for Fred’s special messages. I miss him, and it’s hard sometimes—but he knew he was well loved by everyone who came into contact with him."
-- Lynn Butler

Jeff Erlanger Visits
airing March 13 on PBS

This episode features the remarkable visit with Jeff Erlanger, a young boy who uses an electric wheelchair, explains about his disability and talks about some of his feelings.  There’s also an electric car on this program, and Mister Rogers takes one out for a drive.  It’s not easy to talk about some things, like divorce and disabilities, but the reality of such things is often less scary to children than the fantasies they may have about them.

Jeff's visit was one of Fred Rogers' favorite moments on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
